*The explanatory texts and scripts displayed at the Tokutomi Roka Memorial Literature Museum are corporate-authored works of the plaintiff (company).

“In the first place, the plaintiff was hired by the defendant as a curator to work on the exhibition rooms of the literature museum at issue and continued that work until the exhibition rooms were completed. Thus, even if the plaintiff made a substantial contribution to that work but was not appointed director of the museum, these circumstances deserving consideration in the plaintiff's favor cannot be said to affect ownership of copyright through the determination of whether the works qualify as corporate-authored works.”

Translator’s notes (editorial)

SOURCE PARTY INCONSISTENCY: The opening comment calls the plaintiff a company and attributes corporate authorship to it, whereas the quoted passage describes the plaintiff as a curator employed by the defendant. Both are translated as supplied; plaintiff/defendant designations have not been silently reversed.
